Brief care instructions for some rare orchids

Neomoorea is a rare montotypic genus found principally in Panamá and Colombia. These plants are usually epiphytic or terrestrial from moist cloud forests. They are highly prized in horticulture. Neomoorea wallisii is highly cherished for its spectacular inflorescence of 10-25 orangey flowers. It has large egg shaped pseudobulbs bulbs with large plicate leaves. It does grow to a large size prior to flowering. It will take a few years to mature and flower.

It grows in intermediate temperatures with moderately bright light, and somewhat moist mix, but drier in the winter. A large basket with a rich media that will stay damp but not wet, lots of water and organic fertiliser while in active growth and a dry winter is recommended. Maximum sunlight short of leaf burn is needed. New growths appear in autumn, but do not develop until the warmth of summer. Attention should be paid to these new growths so that excess water is not applied to damp them out. With the warmth of summer, the plants will feed heavily. Ensure minimal disturbance of the plant.
